The all conquering Nigeria U17 team of 2013 is on the verge of becoming the most successful Nigerian youth team in history judging by the number of players who have progressed to the Super Eagles
Four years from when they won the U17 World Youth Championship, nine of the players from the team have progressed to the senior national team of Nigeria, a number which could potentially swell in the coming future.
Lead by coach Manu Garba, the team won the U-17 World Youth Championship in the UAE, but FIFA has continually reminded nations that the essence of the tournament is primarily to develop players, and not about lifting the trophy.
So far the 2013 U17 team are fufilling the primary aim of the tournament, as the recent invitation of Deportivo La Coruna 18 year old goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho and on loan Manchester City midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali brings to nine, the number of players who have progressed to the Super Eagles
Known for his hardwork, honesty and quiteness, Manu can also boast of more players from his 2013 team in the Super Eagles, with the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi on loan from Liverpool to Mouscron of Belgium, and Musa Yahaya at FC Porto knocking on the doors of the first team of their respective teams.
